Overview

Adventrip is a game app that allows tourists or travelers to move through sectors of a new city, making interactive tours by completing snippets of an allegorical story that are scattered throughout the city that they visit, these fragments tell a story in an illustrated and animated way using augmented reality.

The idea of a game/application - From "Trip adventure" to "Adventrip"

Inspired by the mode of operation in applications such as Ingress or the successful Pokemon GO in 2016, the idea of an application with similar mechanics focused on tourism was born. The user can tour a city in adventure mode completing interactive fragments of an allegorical story of those cities they visit.

Initially, one name was thought of to link these activities: history, adventure, discovery and travel. Based on that, names like "TripAdventure" are proposed until finally it is chosen from "AdvenTrip".

Business Model Canvas

Once the application is defined, its feasibility is assessed through the Canvas model where factors such as value proposition, key activities on which the application will focus, key resources, customer segments were analysed, the relationship with these, distribution channels, strategic partnerships and alliances, total operating costs and finally, revenue received.

Digital entrepreneurship projects

After having obtained and organized the information within the canvas, the idea is presented at the Expoideas fair organized by the chamber of commerce of Bogota and the National University of Colombia, the idea was presented to a group of entrepreneurship experts for startups to obtain feedback on how to obtain initial funding and other resources both economic and technological within an academic exercise framework.

Aesthetics and illustrations

Based on the feedback obtained, I made the first explorations of graphic line and illustration style for the application, as well as storyboards of how each story in the application will develop as the user or users complete the points of the route to be selected.

Test with paper prototypes

Based on the first sketches made for the structure of the first windows of the interface, I made the first user tests to evaluate the mechanics of the course and find as many errors as possible in order to give them solutions and improve the usability of the application once it begins to design and program.

Story chosen for the prototype

For the story to be developed for the app, I took into account the proximity of the place where it takes place, the data obtained from studies already carried out, and the stories or oral traditions of the chosen place.

Taking this into account, we chose the sector of La Candelaria in the city of Bogota, due to the mass transit of tourists through that sector. Regarding the story, we chose to talk about armed conflict in Colombia, given the interest that generates in tourists know about the conflict, but we decided to tell from the origins of the conflict beginning the war of a thousand days, narrated under the story of one of the typical characters of the city of Bogotá: La Loca Margarita.

Within the development of the story of La Loca Margarita, telling the origin of the armed conflict, it is proposed to use an illustration style that generates a level of drama that is by the history of our character.

Audio recorder

For the narration of the story, several audio shots were made with a person with a voice that fit the profile of La Loca Margarita and easily appropriated the script.
